eLearning Deconstructed Can Make You a Rockstar!

March 5, 2015 Barry Nadler Leave a Comment

Step-3

Technology is moving at a pace we can barely keep up with. We can’t control that.

The role of the Learning Professional is in a state of change due to the changes in technology and how adults are choosing to take in information. Another thing we can’t control.

What can we control? Ourselves and how we address these changes to our world and our profession. You can take it upon yourself to stay current with technology, industry, and brain science.

It is no longer acceptable to sit back and say “these changes won’t affect me” or “I don’t need to learn about that”. If you take this approach, you will become stagnant in your career and you might potentially end up in the bargain bin.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A ROCKSTAR?

Seize your opportunity! Being a rockstar in your work environment will keep you in demand, make people sit up and notice your innovation (you will probably be two steps ahead of them…regularly), and your projects will be more interesting. Also, because this skill set, knowledge, and foresight is in demand, others will look to you for guidance and probably consulting side-gigs.

I routinely have people come up to me at industry meetings, such as ATD. They tell me they came because they wanted to meet me. I had been recommended to them as an eLearning expert. This side work tends to generate a good amount of cash – expect your consulting work to generate more (at an hourly rate) than as a salaried employee. You can take these new skills as far as you want. It’s about you and what you want your career as a learning professional to be.

THEORY IS GOOD, BUT APPLICATION ROCKS!

In Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, we discussed the changes we have seen and the new skills you will need to become a true professional. That’s great, right? You now are aware of what these things are. But, there are some things missing…some things that are really important.

It’s great to know that you need to really consider creating micro-learning for your learners. It’s a whole different discussion if you want to actually know how to implement a strategy and physically deliver micro-learning for your learners. Same with designing appealing PowerPoint presentations or putting together an entertaining explainer-style video. You also can’t implement a flipped classroom model just using theory.

You need to really know:

  • How to do it
  • What’s involved in implementing it
  • The challenges to expect
  • Resources that are available to you as you attempt to implement it

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

Here at eLearning Deconstructed, we will support you at whatever level you want to be at within your career.

Do you want to just be at the garage band level and pick up a few new things? That’s cool! Are you wanting to kick it up a notch and play the clubs? We got that covered too. There are even a few of you out there that will want to crank the volume to 11 and hit the stadiums as a true rockstar. If you can handle it, you will find the tools, skills, network, and resources here to make that happen for you.

eLearning Deconstructed are your hub as a personal learning network. If you need to be aware of it, we will bring it to you. You can find all the news, information, skills, and connections you need to grow yourself as a Learning Professional…at the speed you want.

Sometimes you just need to know where to start. Sometimes you need someone to just walk you through the process and connect all the dots for you. Other times you need someone to actually do it for you, so you can just get past it and move on to the next project. We can give you all of that and more.

If you want to learn a single task, you can just do that. If you want to become familiar with a task and the related concepts, you can also do that. If you want to take in an entire subject, we will offer that to you as well.

On our site, you will find

  • Articles
  • Tutorials
  • Videos
  • Industry interviews
  • Application of theory, not just theory
  • Online Courses

This is your backstage pass to insight, knowledge, skills, and being aware of what is just over the horizon in our industry.

We will teach you everything you need to know to be successful as a “next-generation” learning professional.

Our site will include simple topics and complex topics. Over time, these might include:

  • How to add white space to a design in PowerPoint
  • How to edit your information videos in Adobe Premiere
  • How to use variables and actions in Adobe Captivate to show a learner which lessons they have completed
  • How to go about implementing a flipped classroom and challenges to expect

This list could go on and on.
